I try to control my diet and do moderate exercise every alternate days for about 20 minutes. It is difficult to manage my diabetes, friends say having diabetes supplement is another way. Any suggestions.
My husband, Richard is a type 2 for the past 15 years. Due to his high BG and high blood pressure. The main concern is Bg which is at 200. After much pursuasion, I ask him to quit his highly stressful job as a hotelier. I help monitor his his diet, low carb, moderate exercise in the garden and reduce stress. It does not reduce his BG. Our friend, Joey suggested us to try as supplement, Dbethics which has helped many to reduce their BG. I was not interested but later decided to try. After
about 10 days my BG drop to 105 and I went to see my endocrynologist who advised me to reduce my insulin
by 5 units in the morning and another 5 units in the evening.
After 2 months I did my HBA1C tests and was amazed that
it has drop by 3 points. My doctor is equally surprised and
has requested me to continue to monitor my Bg closely. Hope it can help you.

What is the metabolic abnormality that underlies the characteristic symptoms of diabetes mellitus?
A. A failure of the kidney tubules to reabsorb glucose from the urine
B. A failure of the villi of the intestine to absorb glucose from food
C. The body can't switch from glucose metabolism to fat metabolism between meals.
D. The body's cells can't retain glucose absorbed from the blood.
E. The body's cells can't absorb enough glucose from the blood.
I believe it is E.
Insulin, which is secreted by the Pancreas, helps to control the amount of sugar in the bloodstream. When the Pancreas does not secrete enough Insulin or none at all, the sugar remains in the blood. Then the body tries to flush out all of the sugar by drinking and urinating- two key symptoms of diabetes.

I'm 19, I'm worried I may have diabetes and I don't have health coverage/insurance so I can't go see a doctor. Is there a cheap way to check if you have it without having to go see a doctor?
Thanks for the tips guys but I don't know anyone close to me who has diabetes, none of my friends got it. I don't think anyone in my family has it so I can't go to them for help. I'm not overweight either.
No Money? Go to the county health department. Or call your local diabetes foundation and ask them where free diabetes testing is going on in your area. Usually one is going on near you.
Good luck . Hope you have a false alarm. Diabetes is a real pain in the you know where.

My dad has diabetes and left it uncontrolled for most of his life. He how has kidney failure. Since his mom has diabetes, it seems as though I'll probably get it at some point in my life. I am very active, eat well, drink in moderation. If I am a blood and tissue match for my dad, would I even be allowed to donate since I may end up with the same problems later in life?
talk with your own doctor about your health and the risks. Do this before you get tested.good luck

What are the different ways insulin is administered and I have heard things about taking insulin orally, but how does that work because won't our enzymes break it down before it reaches the blood stream?
Insulin can only be administered through injection via subcutaneous fat or intravenously through an IV (most likely while hospitalized). Inhaled insulin was on the market for a short time but is no longer available. There is no such thing as oral insulin.

My blood sugar is in very good control, however, there are the occasions when I go into low blood sugar. When I do, I usually drink oj, or eat and eat until it rises and I don't feel the symptoms anymore, usually taking me into high blood sugar. What can you do in the mean time while you are still having symptoms to prevent yourself from skyrocketing blood sugar? I hate that feeling yet I cannot wait while I'm shaking and in cold sweats for it to rise. Any suggestions?
To keep myself from over treating I use 4oz Juicy Juice fruit juice boxes. They have just the right amount of carbs to bring me up and I don't go grabbing other stuff to eat on. I will feel better in less than 10 minutes with this juice box. If I just drink OJ out of a big container, I always over treat so why not avoid that?
Find what works for you. My friend who is diabetic eats 2 snack size Kit Kat bars which are 20g of carb to treat a low. I am not sure how this works for him since there is fat in the candy but he swears by it.

I'm planning on baking some muffins for my nan and she's a diabetic.
Sugar is integral to the muffins actually working, so does anyone know any good alternatives?
For the sake of all diabetics that you might cook for I just really have to say that TheEnd, is completely wrong. Where did you get that idea?
sugar is sugar, and raw or processed it will increase her blood sugar.
Its the carbohydrate level in food that affects the blood glucose level.
is she type 1 or type 2 diabetic
if type 1 tell her the amount of sugar per muffin and she can eat it
if type 2 it will be fine if she only has 1.

I am pre diabetic because usually my fasting blood sugar ranges from 90-115.
I am thin and tall.21 yrs old, female. My mom has diabetes, so my chances of getting diabetes is high.
If I keep doing exercises and not eat heaps of sweets, will I be able to have a normal blood sugar level without being pre diabetic again?
Is there a risk for a pre diabetic person to develop diabetes when pregnant?
Focus your attention on a low glycemic index diet. Google for it. Healthiest way to eat there is, and essential for diabetics.
Since you're already thin and exercise, not much else you can do there. If you're gonna get diabetes, well, you're just gonna get it.
Check your blood sugar maybe once a month, fasting, and 2 hours after eating a meal with some sugar in it. Should be <90 and <140.
Higher than that, see your doctor.
Pregnancy often causes blood sugar problems.

What are the chances of a child inheriting arthritis and type 1 diabetes? There are heart murmurs in the family too, could that be hereditary? Thanks in advance!
If the mother is the carrier then it is very likely the child especially a boy will have inherited diabetes. Arthritis is most definitely an inherited disability. Heart murmurs, if a family trait then those too. However in these times none of these are live threatening as long you take medical help
