diabetic ?

September 29th, 2009 by admin

is it possible to be diabetic even if you dont have ALL the symptoms? for example my sugar levels are fine but i have other symptoms! also family members have suffered from it.

Yes, it is absolutely possible. You can even be what is called "pre-diabetic"…that is what I am considered.

That is when your sugar levels are okay, but your weight is too high/too low/hard to manage, you get swelling/edema, opportunistic infections (yeast infections, UTI, ringworms, etc.) your immune system isn’t up to par, your metabolism may be very slow, you may have gallbladder issues, need to urinate frequently, high cholesterol/blood pressure, etc.

This is especially true if you have a family history of diabetes. If your sugars are normal, the best thing to do would to be to nip this in the bud with diet and exercise. You should also get checked more frequently than a normal person would.

Hope that helps :)

Is it possible to build a tolerance to insulin as a diabetic?

September 25th, 2009 by admin

I was wondering if it is possible for diabetics to build a tolerance to insulin. If it is are there other treatments? If there is no treatment what is the life expectancy? I tried to look it up myself but could not find exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you for any help!

Prediabetes can be called many different things such as insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, and impaired fasting glucose. They all boil down to a warning sign that you body is beginning to resist insulin and your blood glucose levels are starting to become higher than they should be. Whatever name you decide to call it doesn’t matter, but it does show us that type 2 diabetes develops slowly and this may mean that it can be avoided. Since your body develops into this state of being insulin resistant, what are the signs and how do we avoid it?

There are many things that can be done to help control blood sugar levels like regular exercise, understanding how foods will affect you, medication, and natural supplements to help fill in the nutritional gaps.

Regular exercise helps in many ways some are that it improves your body’s insulin use and burns excess fat and calories which will help to improve insulin sensitivity in your body.

There are many things you should know about how foods will affect your blood sugar levels many know about carbohydrates, but don’t understand the effects of coffee, fruits and vegetables, and proteins. It’s important that you learn about these and many others.

Some doctors believe that diabetes is a nutritional deficiency disease so if you are not getting what your body needs from foods that you eat than perhaps looking into natural supplements will fill in the gaps.

Cinnamon, alpha lipoic acid, and b-complex are a few of them that will help control blood sugar levels. There are many others that also have benefits for diabetics.

Here are some webpages that will give you more information to help you learn about diabetes and all of your options.

Good luck to you.

Answer pls people with diabethes only, that know what are they talking about, not others with assumptions.

Can my diabetic dog live without insulin injections?

September 21st, 2009 by admin

My 13 year old dog has had type 1 diabetes for probably about a moth and we cant afford to buy her insulin because its around $60 a moth plus $125 for blood work. Is there anything else that can maintain her diabetes besides insulin? Also if we do not give her any medication how long will she survive for? Thank you so much!

Do your dog a favor and put her down now. As terrible as that sounds it is the best you can do for her. If you’ve ever seen a dog have an insulin reaction, like I have, you’ll understand why. Without insulin the dog will loose it control and pee all over your house at first. Then everything she eats she’ll vomit because she’s so sick. Depending on how bad she has diabetes, within a month or so she’ll pass on. Diabetics die a terrible death no matter how you look at it. SORRY.

How to get insurance for my diabetic supplies and doctor?

September 19th, 2009 by admin

I’m a type one diabetic and I’m 17 now, but when I turn 18 I’m moving out on my own. Right now my mom has medicaide to pay for everything, but I don’t know what I’m going to do when I move out. I would ask my mom for help, but it would just start an argument about me planning to move out. So can anyone help me with that. I have no clue about anything like this.

This depends largely on the state you live in and what your plans are after you leave. If you are going to work then often times your employer will offer health insurance. If you are going to school then you should still be covered by your mother’s medicaid. If you are unemployed or your company doesn’t offer health insurance then you may be eligible for your own medicaid or a plan like Healthy NY which is a state subsidized health insurance plan for people who make too much for medicaid and can not get a plan from there employer.

What is the purpose of a diabetes educator?

September 17th, 2009 by admin

Does a diabetes educator diagnose you with diabetes (specifically gestational diabetes in my case) or do they just tell you about diabetes?

They inform you about different things having diabetes, help with the food we eat, taking your blood sugar, talk about x-ercise.

What are the general symptoms of cholesterol and blood pressure and diabetes?

September 15th, 2009 by admin

I mean to ask how do we find out if one is suffering from cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure without checking blood samples?

high blood pressure tends to give you violent headaches. diabetes makes you thirsty and you drink large ammounts of fluid, you can also have swelling of the hands and feet, itchy skin and so on, here in the united states many drug stores have free to use blood pressure meters.

Diabetic hospitalized 3 days on IV drip for cellulitus. How long before an improvement can be seen?

September 13th, 2009 by admin

My husband is a diabetic, hospitalized for 3 days on an IV drip, no improvment. How long does it usually take to recover or at least see an improvement.

If the antibiotic is appropriate, then 3 days should be enough to see a change.

What are the chances of me getting diabetes?

September 11th, 2009 by admin

As far as I know, diabetes doesn’t run in my family. My dad has high cholesterol, 2 of my aunts and my mom have high blood pressure, another aunt has a thyroid problem, and my dad’s cousin died from pancreatic cancer. Are my chances high? I’ve heard a lot of these link to diabetes, but I’m not sure which one I’m at risk to get if at all.
I forgot to mention I am 19 years old if that helps.

Hi,
You are at risk to develop high blood pressure and cholesterol. The risk of diabetes for you is more; if you have these problems otherwise it is the same as general population. Hope this helps. Take care. For more information visit this useful site
