What is the average age for a really healthy diabetic to die?

I have a friend who is a really healthy type 1 diabetic and he is 30 years old, and his mom has diabetes but has lived awhile. So is it likely for him to die anytime soon?

According to US data, the reduction in life expectancy seen in people with Type 1 diabetes is dependent on the age at diagnosis. At a minimum, life expectancy is shortened by 15 years. One study using life insurance records showed a reduction in life expectancy of 27 years in those diagnosed before age 15. A study of patients at the Joslin Clinic, a US clinic specializing in diabetes, found only a 16 to 17 year reduction in life expectancy for those diagnosed at ages 10 or 15. However, people who are treated at the Joslin Clinic would tend to be from wealthier families and would likely receive better medical care.

How can I make chocolate turtles for my diabetic grandpa?

January 16th, 2010 by admin

My grandpa is diabetic, but he used to love those turtle chocolates with caramel and nuts. I would love to make him some for Christmas but I can’t seem to find a recipe online?

Use stevia as the sugar substitute because it is not genetically engineered garbage like all the other ones are and is a natural plant used as medicine in the Amazon. It won’t hurt the body.

Then use Carob as the chocolate substitute.

good luck to you

Can diabetic nueropathy affect individual fingers and toes but not others?

January 13th, 2010 by admin

I am worried about having diabetes. For months I have been having pain in some of my fingertips and toes. The pain is not constant but very frequent. I have also been having pain in my tailbone with IBS symptoms. Does anyone know if diabetic nueropathy can be like this and if nueropathy can be the first symptom of diabetes?

Nerve entrapment is by far the most common cause of isolated neuropathies, but its not very common to similar nerve entrapments in all four limbs. Diabetes is one possibility, but the symptoms also occur with kidney disorders, vitamin deficiencies, certain endocrine disorders, vascular problems, and a variety of neurological conditions. The docs would need to start with a very complete physical exam, urinalysis, and panel of blood tests to even begin to guess what’s going on.

why is it not allowed for diabetic patients to take their diabetic pills before a cataract surgery?

January 3rd, 2010 by admin

why is it not allowed for diabetic patients to take their diabetic pills before a cataract surgery? what is the reason behind that?
thanks!

They are guarding against anything that might cause an unsafe drop in blood sugar. I was allowed to take everything except for my insulin the morning of my vitrectomy surgeries. Even so, my sugar still dropped during one of my surgeries and they had to give me something.

What if your not diabetic what happens if none diabetic gets insulin injection?

December 31st, 2009 by admin

what happens if none diabetic gets insulin injection? and its to much just and takes it really low would this happen the same as in a diabetic?

Insulin’s job is to decrease blood sugar levels by absorbing and storing the sugar as various forms of energy (ie. fat). Diabetics who take insulin have some form of insulin deficiency in their body. A non-diabetic who takes insulin would result in having too much insulin, so their blood sugar will drop. Blood sugar levels must be maintained at a fairly constant level for appropriate body function, and if it drops too low, it can induce seizures or coma.

How much money does it cost to support a diabetic child?

December 2nd, 2009 by admin

How much money does it cost to support a diabetic child? Which insurance companies cover it? Is there an increase in cost for premiums and exclusions for coverage after being diagnosed or even being at risk? Are there laws that prevent insurance companies from losing insurance after being diagnosed?

What is normal blood glucose level in a non diabetic person ?

November 28th, 2009 by admin

What is the normal range for a non diabetic person after eating more than normal ? Like on a holiday.? And when is the best time for a non diabetic person to check blood glucose ?

Hi the normal blood glucose in a non-diabetic person is 70-110. But this lab varies with different labs at different doctors offices. It will not vary much though. After a sugary load of food your blood sugar will rise possibly to 150-200. But it does goes down once the pancreas kicks out the insulin. The best time to check your blood sugar for a non-diabetic person is in the AM before you eat breakfast and preferably the night before you did not eat all sugar things. Hope this helped. Happy Thanksgiving.

How many times a day should a type one diabetic take their blood sugar?

November 25th, 2009 by admin

My dad is 54 and a type one diabetic. He hasn’t been controlling it the best he could in the past and I am urging him to being to take notice.

So how many times should he do it and when?

Ummm.. it depends on the person;
I’m type one diabetic as well, but I check my blood sugar a lot..
About 6/7 times a day..
When I get up/before breakfast..
Before lunch
Sometimes in the later afternoon
Before dinner
Sometimes 1/2 between dinner and bed
Before bed

But, like I said.. I do it a lot

Hope your dad gets his diabetes under control!

diabetic ?

September 29th, 2009 by admin

is it possible to be diabetic even if you dont have ALL the symptoms? for example my sugar levels are fine but i have other symptoms! also family members have suffered from it.

Yes, it is absolutely possible. You can even be what is called "pre-diabetic"…that is what I am considered.

That is when your sugar levels are okay, but your weight is too high/too low/hard to manage, you get swelling/edema, opportunistic infections (yeast infections, UTI, ringworms, etc.) your immune system isn’t up to par, your metabolism may be very slow, you may have gallbladder issues, need to urinate frequently, high cholesterol/blood pressure, etc.

This is especially true if you have a family history of diabetes. If your sugars are normal, the best thing to do would to be to nip this in the bud with diet and exercise. You should also get checked more frequently than a normal person would.

Hope that helps :)
