The MiniMed Paradigm Insulin Pump: Brent’s insulin pump requires him to relocate the infusion site every 3 days in a fatty area. Yes, he says it does hurt. He does not use the MiniLink Wireless Transmitter. However, he has used it once for “testing”, and he said, “It hurts way to bad.” The transmitter has to be in a vein (much longer needle), so it can take a glucose reading at random, which in turn sends it via infrared to the insulin pump. The downside is you STILL HAVE TO DO FINGER-PRICKS to compare. (ok, why go through double-trouble..ouch)

My four year old son is now partially managing his own diabetes, with only a little bit of help.
Support your local chapter of the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund)!
Together, we can find a cure!
Update – 3/16/2010:
This video is now almost 2 full years old. Thorwald is six now. We’re still using a medtronic Paradigm pump, and real-time sensors. Thanks to the pump and regular glucose control, we have yet to have a hypoglycemic seizure happen!
Thank you all SO MUCH for your kind comments!

See how the Animas Ping insulin pump and Ping meter communicate via wireless technology to bolus insulin. Great technology that helps me deal with diabetes every day in an easier way. No more pulling my pump out to take insulin, the meter will tell the pump to give me insulin based on my blood sugar reading and how much insulin I tell the pump to give me.
